Pet Vaccinations

Core Dog Vaccines

Core dog vaccines are recommended for every pet regardless of lifestyle due to their severity and potential for death. These diseases are often transferred via body fluids, like sneezing, saliva, infected stools and urine. Vaccines work by prompting your pet’s immune system to create antibodies against the inoculated diseases, which helps to lessen the severity of the illness or prevent it entirely. Most vaccines are updated yearly or every three years, depending on the vaccination laws and the manufacturer’s recommendations.

Rabies is required by law for all dogs, regardless of lifestyle. Rabies is a very serious disease that affects your pet’s central nervous system and leads to death. It can be transmitted from wild animals to domestic animals and humans. The only treatment is vaccination.

Canine Distemper

Canine distemper is another serious disease that is highly contagious. Puppies are most susceptible to the illness, but dogs of any age can contract it. The disease causes diarrhea and vomiting as well as discharge from the eyes and nose. In severe cases, it can cause damage to the dog’s central nervous system and eyes.

Canine hepatitis is extremely serious and can affect a dog’s vital organs, including the liver and kidneys. Initial symptoms include coughing and a sore throat. Your dog’s eyes may also develop discoloration to his or her corneas, making them appear blue or cloudy. Dogs have been known to succumb to the disease in as little as two hours.

Parvovirus causes extreme diarrhea and vomiting in dogs. Blood may or may not be present in soft stools. This can lead to rapid dehydration. Puppies are most susceptible, but any age dog can contract the illness. In severe cases, it can lead to death in as little as two days after the appearance of symptoms.
